Sin WAS a problem - Friday, 16 March
“He is the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”
1 John 2:2 ESV (Brackets mine)

Jesus was the atoning sacrifice (the payment, or sacrifice that satisfied God’s wrath against sin). The sin problem has been dealt with. Sin no longer separates you – or anyone else – from God. Sin has been dealt with – not only for
believers, but for the whole world. Even though sin is a problem in the world and is causing harm, pain and suffering, there is no longer a sin problem between man and God. (I’m not saying that everyone is going to heaven automatically. Sin is paid for to make a way for salvation, but salvation is a gift that has to be received. Romans 10:9-10)

“That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them…”
2 Corinthians 5:19 ESV

Sin was a problem. But through Jesus, God was reconciling the world to Himself – resolving the sin problem and re-establishing a close relationship between Himself and mankind, and not holding men’s sin against them. God dealt with the sin problem. Because of Jesus, you can have a close intimate relationship with God, and this relationship doesn’t fluctuate in intimacy dependent on how perfect you are – it fluctuates based on your heart. You can enjoy intimacy with God on your worst day. In fact, intimacy with God is your solution to the problems and struggles you are facing.

“Let us

therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 TLB

Grace has made a way for us to run to God, even when we’re not doing so

good, so that we can receive mercy (not be treated as we deserve) and grace (get treated better than we deserve). When we come to our loving heavenly Father we will find help!
