SICKNESS IS NEVER GOD’S WILL - Thursday, 12 October

“That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
 Matthew 8:16-17 ESV (emphasis mine)

A reason why so many people don’t experience healing is either because they believe that sickness is from God, or they believe that God allows sickness because He wants to teach them something through it. This is certainly not in agreement with Scripture. Matthew 8:16-17 is just one of many scriptures which records that Jesus “healed all who were sick.” Let’s look at a few more scriptures, just from the gospel of Matthew:

“So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them.”
  Matthew 4:24 ESV  (emphasis mine)

“…And many followed him, and he healed them all.”
Matthew 12:15 ESV (emphasis mine)

“When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick (excluding no one).”
Matthew 14:14 ESV (emphasis and brackets mine)

“And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them (all those who were laid at His feet), so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.”
Matthew 15:30-31 ESV (emphasis mine and brackets mine)

“And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.”
Matthew 19:2 ESV (emphasis mine)

Nowhere in the gospels can you find an account of Jesus laying hands on a healthy person saying, “I give unto you cancer” or anything like that. Jesus never put sickness on anyone. Likewise, you cannot find any account where Jesus refuses to heal someone, saying something like, “this illness is from God to test your character and bring a greater glory to the Father”, or, “I cannot heal you as it is not God’s will.” No, never! Jesus always healed all who came to Him. He never turned anyone down, and He never put sickness on anyone.

Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the “express image” of the Father. That means that Jesus is an exact representation of Father God and perfectly represented Him. In other words, if we look at the life and ministry of Jesus, we know that because He never put sickness on anyone, God won’t either. Jesus never denied anyone’s healing request, therefore, neither will God. As Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do: for what things soever He does, these also does the Son likewise” (John 5:19 KJV). Jesus perfectly represented the Father to the degree that Jesus could proclaim that, “he that has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Sickness is never a work of God.

I know this raises a lot of questions, like “then why isn’t everyone healed?”. There are answers for that, and we will look at some of them in the upcoming devotions. The main points I want you to get from today’s devotion are:

(1) Jesus neverput sickness on anyone, for any reason; therefore He is not putting sickness on you, ever.

(2) Jesus never refused to heal anyone; therefore He is not refusing to heal you. He loves you and personally paid for your healing.

(3) Jesus was a perfect representation of the Father. Therefore we know that God wants you well and sickness is never in His plans for you!
