See things correctly – Tuesday, 14 November
We have an enemy and a lot of the negative things (problems) in our lives have a demonic origin. But not all challenging things in our lives have a demonic origin but the devil will try to use them to get at us.
How do we deal with the attacks of the enemy?
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7 (KJV)
This is a powerful truth for us as believers and there is much in it which we will dig out over the next few days. If you want to see the devil flee in terror, abandon his attack on your life and leave you alone, then you need to submit to God and resist the devil. You can’t only submit to God or only resist the devil: you need to do both.
Submitting to God and resisting the devil are like two wings on an aeroplane; you won’t fly without two wings and likewise, you will not effectively live in victory without both submitting to God and resisting the devil. You cannot truly submit to God without resisting the devil, and you cannot effectively resist the devil without submitting to God!
A sure start to dealing with the attacks of the devil in your life is to see things as God sees them. Having God’s perspective on things is in actual fact one of the ways you can submit to God. It means that you’re choosing to see things from His perspective, not your own.
For example, you might be feeling an attack in your finances and there might be much fear that you’re not going to make it: but from God’s perspective, He’s your Dad, He is looking after you and there is nothing to fear. He provides for you according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). When you choose to see things from God’s perspective, it is a way of automatically resisting the devil because it activates faith in your heart.
“and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 2:6-7 (ESV)
As a Christian, you are seated in Christ in heavenly places, so that God can show you how much He loves you and how much He has blessed you in Christ. You’re seated in Him far above far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named (Ephesians 1:21). Your problems all have names. Cancer is a name. Bankruptcy is a name. Fear, depression and anxiety are all names. In Christ, you are seated far above whatever problem you have. This means that – from God’s perspective – you already have the victory! Whatever problem you have, it’s not part of you. It’s not who you are, and it’s beneath you. You’re bigger than your problem!
Whatever negative situation you face, choose to see it from God’s perspective. When you do, you will start to see yourself as victorious and any fear associated with the situation will diminish. This is when faith will be activated in your heart to overcome. Fear always holds us captive and prevents us from walking in victory and in all that God has for us. Choose to see things from God’s perspective.
Much love
Shayne
