How to have supernatural faith.
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)
Many people feel that they cannot come to God boldly and that they cannot expect to receive good things from Him because they are relating to God based on their performance, and they know that their performance isn’t good enough. You will never have the boldness to come to God while you are basing His acceptance and His blessing of you on your performance – you will never be good enough. If your boldness in approaching God isn’t based on His grace, then your boldness is arrogance. If you think that you deserve God’s acceptance and blessing for any reason apart from grace, then think again because you don’t! The only reason we can be bold in our relationship with God and expect to receive good things from Him is that of His grace (undeserved favour) through Jesus and what He did for us.
When we know God for who He really is, we will be bold and confident in our walk with Him. Our relationship with God will only ever be as good as our understanding of His grace. Many people see God as sitting on a throne of judgement (where you receive what you deserve), but He’s actually sitting on a throne of grace (where you get what you don’t deserve). As a believer, you can enjoy a free-flowing relationship with God knowing that He’s always dealing with you in grace because your confidence is in what Jesus did for you and how that made you acceptable to God – your confidence isn’t in your performance to be accepted!
“We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.”
Hebrews 12:2 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Relating to God based on His grace and not our performance releases supernatural faith in our lives. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing the word, and in context, the word is referring to the gospel – what Jesus did for us! The first time we hear the good news of what Jesus has done for us supernatural faith is birthed within us to receive salvation, and now, as believers, as we focus on Jesus and what He has done for us, supernatural faith is cultivated, strengthened and perfected in us.
We cannot successfully look to the natural realm (what we see, feel and can experience) to build our faith because faith is birthed in Jesus and is perfected in Him – strong supernatural faith comes by fixing your gaze on Jesus. It’s difficult to believe God and His Word when you’re focused on your performance, your failings and your efforts. You will always be trying to evaluate yourself and wondering if you are doing well enough. But when you realize that it’s all about His goodness towards you – independent of your performance – it becomes easy to have strong in faith and receive from Him. We cannot receive mercy or grace to help us unless we are relying on His grace and not our performance.
“For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we who did not know righteousness might become the righteousness of God through our union with him.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 The Passion Translation (TPT)
When you are focused on what Jesus has done for you it brings you to the realization that He is not holding anything against you (2 Corinthians 5:19) and that He is not remembering any of your sins (Hebrews 10:17). You will come to the realization that by His sacrifice, He has made you holy forever (Hebrews 10:10) and because you are now in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) you are now righteous (right with God – 2 Corinthians 5:21). You are not righteous because of your actions and efforts – He made you righteous, and this righteousness is God’s righteousness. Therefore, you are 100% right before God, and you are as right before God as Jesus is because Jesus became sin for you so that you could become the righteousness of God in Him! As you focus on this amazing truth – the truth of your identity in Christ – supernatural, strong, bold faith will rise up within you.
