Faith is based on knowledge – Tuesday, 24 October
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”
2 Peter 1:3 KJV
Faith is based on knowledge. Faith comes by hearing the Word (Hebrews 10:17) and so if you don’t know that Word, you won’t have faith. You cannot have a relationship with God if you don’t know Him, and the better you know Him the better your relationship will be.
We’ve been given “all things” for life (the practical) and godliness (the spiritual). That includes healing. We’ve been given everything we could need for every situation we could ever face and every task we need to accomplish. But we will only ever experience what is ours in proportion to “the knowledge of Him”.
“Faith comes by hearing… the Word” (Hebrews 10:17) and so what you know is either liberating or imprisoning you. Bondage is always the result of a lack of the right knowledge (called truth). Bondage is always the result of ignorance – not knowing. But knowing the truth (the right knowledge) sets us free (John 8:32).
They say that what you don’t know won’t hurt you and ignorance is bliss, but the truth is that what you don’t know will kill you (Hosea 4:6). Destruction is caused by a lack of knowing the right knowledge, and we’re not just talking about an intellectual awareness but rather a heartfelt conviction which leads to action – “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain.” (Genesis 4:1 KJV). The kind of knowledge that we’re talking about is an intimate knowing (not a casual awareness) which leads to fruitfulness.
Many believers do not realize the power of the Word of God. They don’t realize what they’re missing out on by not knowing the Word, studying it, meditating on it and speaking it out.
“Forever, O LORD, thy Word is settled in heaven.”
Psalms 119:89 KJV
“The grass withers, the flower fades: but the Word of our God shall stand for ever.”
Isaiah 40:8 KJV
“But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
1 Peter 1:25 KJV
What God says, is. What man says, might be. What man says is always subject to change. But do you really know what God says?
I know of someone who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. When the doctor checked to see how far cancer had progressed, it was gone! The woman read through Scriptures on what God’s Word says concerning healing and health. She decided to receive those Word, and she was healed! What the doctor had pronounced over her as the final word had changed. You need to stop holding onto the word of man (and your doctor) as if it is eternal and start holding onto God’s Word, which is eternal. It endures and stands forever. God is faithful!
When you discover (come to know) what God’s Word says concerning your situation and life it is important that you take that Word and hold onto it because it is the truth that will set you free. Remember that God created the universe with His Word, and His Word is faithful and trustworthy – you can trust Him. Keep believing His Word. Keep speaking His Word. Everything else is subject to change.
