What you say…

What you say...

“They were in the midst of a discussion about all the events of the last few days when Jesus walked up and accompanied them in their journey. They were unaware that it was Jesus walking alongside them, for God prevented them from recognizing him.

Jesus said to them, “You seem to be in a deep discussion about something. What are you talking about, so sad and gloomy?”

They stopped, and the one named Cleopas answered, “Haven’t you heard? Are you the only one in Jerusalem unaware of the things that have happened over the last few days?”
Luke 24:15-18 The Passion Translation (TPT)

We will have negative circumstances in our lives at some point (John 16:33), but it is up to you how you will look at it and how you will talk about it. It is impossible for a believer who is full of the Word and full of the Spirit to be pessimistic. Believers should be eternal optimists even when all hell is breaking loose against us! If we truly believe the Bible, then even in the midst of severe adversity we would have attitudes of victors because we know that God works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28) and through Christ we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and if God is for us, no one can stand against us (Romans 8:32)!

The disciples were walking along discussing Jesus’ crucifixion in a way which made them sound sad, gloomy and depressed. Granted, they didn’t remember that Jesus had prophesied that he would be killed and would rise from the dead (Matthew 20:17–19) but they were still choosing to speak in a sad, gloomy and depressed manner. You can talk about the right things in the wrong way and it’s simply just speaking unbelief not faith! These believers were speaking in unbelief and it made them sad, gloomy and depressed – if you speak about things in unbelief you will have the same result.

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Mark 11:23 New King James Version (NKJV)

Many people do not like their lives and wonder why things are the way they are. One of the reasons is that they are simply having what they are saying. You may not realize it, but what you say is either revealing your faith or unbelief – what you say is the fruit of what’s in your heart (Luke 6:45). Through your words, you’re either speaking words of life and releasing the power of God into your life, or you’re speaking words of death and releasing the powers of darkness over yourself (Proverbs 18:21). You choose how you’re going to see your circumstances and whether you’ll talk about them in unbelief or faith, and the way that you speak about them will largely determine their outcome!

If you know your heart isn’t full of faith, yet, then you need to discipline your mouth to say what God’s word says and not what you are thinking and feeling (James 3:1-12). The language of heaven is faith. Speaking faith is a part of living by faith.
