The "why?" is more important than "how much?" - Saturday, 23 September

“Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Luke 21:1-4 ESV

Many people think that the size of their gift is important when the Bible shows us that while man looks at the outward appearance (the size of the gift) God is looking at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).

Two coins were all that the poor widow had to give, compared to the rich people who put much larger gifts into the offering box. The widow gave 100%, while the rich probably gave a very small percentage of what they had.

God is interested in your heart more than your gift. A wealthy person giving R1 Million could be very stingy; a poor person’s R1 gift could be very generous.

“If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:3 ESV

Your motivation for giving is more important to God than the size of your gift. Giving with the wrong motivation will profit you nothing.

Much love,

Shayne
